Laylatul Qadr: The Night of Divine Mercy
In the blessed month of Ramadan, there lies a night so powerful, so spiritually enriching, that it surpasses a thousand months in virtue. This extraordinary night is Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Decree) a night when Allah writes destinies, forgives sins, and showers divine mercy upon believers.
What is Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr is mentioned in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Qadr (97:1-5):
“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit [Jibreel] descend there in by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
This means that worship on Laylatul Qadr brings more rewards than 83 years of worship! On this night, Allah revealed the Holy Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as guidance for humanity.
When is Laylatul Qadr?
While the exact date remains unknown, the Prophet (ﷺ) encouraged believers to seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd-numbered nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th). Many scholars believe the 27th night is the most likely, but devotion throughout all ten nights ensures its blessings.
